My Little Green Guru
I’ve never considered myself a “plant person.” In fact, my thumbs are anything but green. I’m the kind of person who could kill a cactus with kindness (true story). So, when my well-meaning friend gifted me a ZZ plant, known for its hardiness, I accepted it with a mixture of apprehension and a healthy dose of skepticism.
“He’s low-maintenance,” my friend assured me. “You practically have to water him with a calendar reminder.”
Little did I know, this “low-maintenance” plant would soon teach me some valuable life lessons, completely turning my black thumb a vibrant shade of green (metaphorically speaking, of course).
Lesson #1: Patience is a Virtue (and So is Google)
My first challenge came when, after a few weeks of diligently ignoring my ZZ plant (you know, being “low-maintenance” and all), I noticed its leaves starting to droop. Panic set in. Had I already killed the unkillable plant? Was this the end of my short-lived plant-parenting journey?
Frantically, I did what any self-respecting millennial would do: I Googled it. Turns out, even the most resilient plants need a little love. I had been so worried about overwatering that I had completely neglected its basic needs.
