The Case of the Repeating Thought Loop

It started innocently enough. I was making coffee, pondering the universe’s mysteries (or maybe just what to have for breakfast). Suddenly, a random phrase popped into my head: “Did I reply to that email?” Simple, right? Except it wouldn’t leave.

“Did I reply to that email? Did I reply to that email? DID I REPLY TO THAT EMAIL?” My inner voice had morphed into a deranged parrot, squawking the same question on an endless loop. I tried reasoning with it. “Dude, we answered this five seconds ago. Move on!” Silence. Then, “Did I reply to that email?”
