The Unexpected Life Lessons I Learned from a Houseplant

My Thumb Is More of a Rusty Trowel

Let’s be honest, I’m not exactly known for my green thumb. In fact, my gardening skills are more comparable to a bull in a china shop – things tend to wilt in my presence. So, when my well-intentioned friend gifted me a houseplant, I accepted it with a mixture of gratitude and terror.

“Just don’t kill it,” she’d said with a knowing smile, completely aware of my track record. Little did I know, this seemingly insignificant plant would soon become my unlikely life coach, teaching me valuable lessons I never expected.

plant-killing machine.

But then, I remembered something my therapist once said: “Sometimes, all you need is a little adjustment to thrive.” So, instead of giving up, I did some research. I learned about drainage, sunlight, and the importance of not drowning your leafy friend in affection (or water, for that matter).

To my surprise, the plant slowly perked up. It was a literal and figurative reminder that even when we feel defeated, a little self-care and a change in perspective can work wonders.
