The Great Phone Number Fiasco: Why I Can’t Remember My Own Number

Have you ever experienced that awkward moment when someone asks for your phone number and your mind goes completely blank? You know you should know it, but it’s like trying to recall a forgotten dream. Well, my friends, that’s my daily reality. I, a functioning adult in the 21st century, suffer from a severe case of “phone number amnesia.”

My First Public Phone Number Shaming

My inability to recall those ten precious digits first reared its ugly head during my college years. Picture this: I’m at a bustling college party, attempting to charm this intriguing individual with my dazzling wit and questionable dance moves. Things are going swimmingly until they ask for my number. My heart drops to my stomach as I mumble, “Uh… let me just…” and proceed to frantically search through my contacts for my own name.

Business Card” Phase

To avoid further public humiliation, I devised a cunning plan: business cards. Yes, like a seasoned CEO, I started carrying around a stack of sleek cards with my name, email, and (drumroll, please) phone number printed on them.

This strategy worked surprisingly well… for a while. People were impressed by my apparent professionalism, and I felt like a secret agent handing out my contact information. However, the novelty eventually wore off. Plus, I ran into some snags. Like the time I confidently whipped out a business card to give to a cute barista, only to realize I was completely out.
