We’ve all seen them. Those mythical creatures who bound out of bed at the crack of dawn, practically vibrating with energy and cheer. They sip green smoothies while watching the sunrise and probably have perfectly toned abs. They are, of course, morning people.
The Pact with Myself (and My Alarm Clock)
I, however, am decidedly not a morning person. My ideal morning involves hitting the snooze button at least three times and then dragging myself out of bed just in time to make coffee before work. But a few weeks ago, I made a pact with myself (and my neglected alarm clock) to join the ranks of the perky and productive. This, my friends, was my first mistake.
Here’s what actually happened:
- Day 1: Woke up 10 minutes before my usual time, convinced I had somehow broken the space-time continuum. Went back to sleep.
- Day 2: Successfully woke up an hour early! Stared blankly at the wall for 45 minutes, then stumbled to the coffee machine, convinced I was coming down with something.
- Day 3: Attempted yoga. Pulled a hamstring trying to get into downward dog. Spent the rest of the day hobbling around and muttering curses at the universe.
