From Button Mashing to Life Lessons?
Let me start by saying, I never thought I’d be the person writing about life lessons learned from video games. I mean, I always knew gaming was awesome, but profound life lessons? That was the realm of dusty old books and overly philosophical relatives at Thanksgiving. But here I am, about to eat my words (and maybe another slice of pumpkin pie).
It all started with a particularly frustrating boss fight in “Dark Souls” (yes, that “Dark Souls”). After the hundredth time my character was turned into pixelated dust, I realized something: raging wasn’t working.

This sprawling Western epic isn’t just about robbing banks and outgunning rival gangs (though there’s plenty of that too). It’s about the journey, the characters, and the stunningly realized world Rockstar Games created. I found myself spending hours just exploring the vast landscapes, fishing in serene lakes, and interacting with the quirky (and sometimes downright bizarre) characters I met along the way.
It reminded me to slow down, appreciate the little things, and find beauty in unexpected places. Turns out, life, like a good video game, is best enjoyed at your own pace, taking the time to soak it all in.
