We all have them. Those little green roommates who share our living spaces, silently soaking up the sun and… judging our every move? Okay, maybe that last part is just me, but hear me out. Lately, I’ve been getting some serious side-eye from my peace lily, Phyllis. And I’m convinced it’s because she’s silently judging my life choices.
The Time I Forgot to Water My Peace Lily
It all started a few weeks ago. I was having a particularly hectic week—deadlines looming, social calendar overflowing, you know the drill. In the midst of the chaos, I completely forgot to water poor Phyllis. I’m not talking about a day late, I’m talking about a week late. When I finally remembered, her leaves were drooping lower than my spirits after a weekend of binge-watching reality TV.
As I rushed to fill her watering can, I swear I saw a judgmental flicker in her usually placid leaves. It was as if she was saying, “Seriously? You call yourself a plant parent?”
My Houseplant Repotting Disaster
Then there was the great repotting debacle of 2023. I decided, in a burst of domesticity, that Phyllis needed a bigger pot. How thoughtful of me, right? Wrong. Turns out, repotting is not as simple as it seems (who knew?).
I ended up with more dirt on me than in the pot, and I’m pretty sure I accidentally ripped off one of her roots. As I surveyed the scene—me covered in potting mix, Phyllis looking slightly worse for wear—I could practically hear her sigh, “Amateur.”
