The Pre-Dawn Disaster
Have you ever woken up with a jolt at 2:00 AM, heart racing, convinced you’ve overslept for a life-changing event? Yeah, that’s my normal Tuesday. So, you can imagine the sheer terror I felt when my alarm went off at 6:00 AM—on purpose. You see, I had decided to become one of “those” people: the morning people.
The internet promised me the world: increased productivity, a calmer mind, and maybe even the ability to finally make a decent cup of coffee. All I had to do was conquer the beast—my snooze button.
My “calm and productive” mornings looked a little something like this:
- Stumble out of bed, trip over the cat, apologize profusely to the cat.
- Attempt to make coffee, end up with a sink full of grounds and a distinct lack of caffeine.
- Stare blankly at my computer screen, wondering if it’s socially acceptable to send emails entirely in emojis.
The Great Morning Experiment Backfires
Turns out, forcing myself into a routine that went against my very nature had some…side effects. I was more exhausted than ever, my brain felt like it was perpetually stuck in second gear, and my usually sunny disposition had curdled into something resembling grumpy cottage cheese.
The final straw? I may or may not have accidentally put orange juice in my coffee maker. Don’t judge me. It was 7:00 AM, and my brain hadn’t figured out which way was up yet.
