The Unexpected Life Lessons I Learned from a Houseplant

Let’s be honest, I’m not exactly known for my green thumb. In fact, my history with houseplants is littered with more casualties than a low-budget action flick. So, when my well-meaning friend gifted me a sprightly little ZZ plant, I accepted with a wince and a silent prayer for the poor thing.

Operation: Don’t Kill the ZZ Plant (Again)

Determined to break my plant-killing streak, I approached this new challenge with the zeal of a convert. I researched the ZZ plant’s needs with the intensity of a scholar studying ancient texts. “Low light? Check. Infrequent watering? Double check.” This was my kind of plant!

Armed with my newfound knowledge, I set about caring for my ZZ plant, which I affectionately named Zephyr. Now, Zephyr and I have been through a lot together. We’ve had our share of near-death experiences (me forgetting to water for three weeks straight, Zephyr dramatically drooping) and moments of unexpected growth (seriously, where did that new stem come from?).
