My Accidental Museum of the Mundane
The other day, I stumbled upon a dusty box tucked away in the back of my closet. Curiosity piqued, I blew off a layer of what I can only assume was fossilized dust bunny and peered inside. And you know what I found? Not long-lost treasure or family heirlooms. Nope. I found a treasure trove of… bottle caps.
This got me thinking: what other unintentional collections have I amassed over the years? Turns out, quite a few. And the more I thought about it, the more I realized these accidental collections reveal a lot about me.
The Overflowing Charm of My Mug Collection
My love affair with mugs is no secret. My kitchen cupboards resemble a ceramic zoo, overflowing with mugs of all shapes, sizes, and levels of kitsch. There are mugs commemorating long-forgotten events, mugs acquired from tourist traps I don’t even remember visiting, and mugs gifted by well-meaning relatives who clearly haven’t grasped the sheer volume of my collection.
I justify this obsession with the argument that each mug holds a different type of beverage experience. The hefty, oversized mug is for cozy nights in with tea and a good book. The sleek, minimalist mug is for my morning coffee, fueled by ambition and the delusion that I’ll actually get everything done on my to-do list.
