My Thumb Went from Brown to…Slightly Less Brown?
Let’s be honest, my history with plants was less than stellar. I’m talking Sahara Desert levels of dryness. I once killed a cactus. A CACTUS. So naturally, when my well-meaning friend gifted me a perfectly healthy peace lily, I accepted it with the dread of a condemned man walking the Green Mile.
To my surprise, something shifted. Maybe it was the guilt, maybe it was the plant’s quiet dignity, but I was determined to keep this one alive. Little did I know, this leafy green roommate would teach me more than just how to not kill foliage. It would impart wisdom about life, the universe, and everything in between (okay, maybe not everything, but you get the gist).
Lesson #1: Plant Resilience in the Face of Adversity
Remember that time I almost killed the peace lily? Yeah, well, I did more than “almost.” I overwatered it so badly it was basically a swamp creature in a terracotta pot. I was convinced it was a goner. But then, a miracle! After some frantic Googling and a whole lot of apologizing to the plant (don’t judge), it perked back up. It was like witnessing botanical resurrection! Turns out, even when knocked down (or, you know, drowned), a little resilience goes a long way. Who knew a plant could be such a drama queen, right?
