The Unexpected Life Lesson I Learned From a Houseplant

We’ve all been there. You’re scrolling through Instagram, bombarded by images of perfect lives, and suddenly it hits you: you should really get a houseplant. It’s like a one-way ticket to becoming the epitome of “put-together adult.” Plus, how hard can it be, right?

Operation: Green Thumb, Commence!

Well, my journey to botanical enlightenment began, predictably, with a trip to the local garden center. Surrounded by vibrant greenery, I felt like a warrior entering the arena, ready to conquer the world of plant parenthood. I settled on a cute little succulent – low maintenance, they said. For the first few weeks, things went surprisingly well. Steve seemed happy. I, on the other hand, was constantly on edge, convinced that I was overwatering, underwatering, or otherwise slowly assassinating my new leafy companion. Then, disaster struck. I noticed a few ominous brown spots on Steve’s leaves. Panic set in. Had I failed him? Was this the beginning of the end? I frantically Googled “brown spots on succulents” and was met with a barrage of terrifying diagnoses: root rot, sun scorch, pests… the list went on.
