My Journey From Plant Killer to…Slightly Less of a Plant Killer
Let’s be honest, my history with plants is a bit checkered. I once killed a cactus. A CACTUS. So when my well-intentioned friend gifted me a peace lily for my birthday, I was convinced it was doomed.
I pictured myself dramatically mourning over its wilted leaves, whispering, “I’m so sorry, little buddy, I just wasn’t cut out for this whole plant parent thing.”
Lesson #1: The Importance of TLC (and Proper Watering)
I Googled. I YouTubed. I even joined an online forum for houseplant enthusiasts (yes, those exist, and they’re surprisingly supportive). Turns out, keeping a plant alive isn’t rocket science, but it does require paying attention. Who knew?
I learned about drainage, sunlight preferences, and the delicate art of not drowning your leafy friend (apparently, cacti included). Slowly, my peace lily perked up. New growth emerged, a vibrant green against the older, slightly traumatized leaves.
It was a small victory, but it felt like a major turning point. Just like that, my confidence grew alongside my plant.
