Why I’m Convinced My Houseplant is Secretly Judging Me

From Green Thumb to Green Judgement

It all started innocently enough. I, like so many others, fell prey to the allure of being a plant parent during lockdown. The promise of bringing the outdoors in, nurturing life, and adding a touch of green to my otherwise chaotic existence was too tempting to resist. Little did I know, I was inviting a silent, leafy judge into my home.

At first, things were great. My new ZZ plant, which I affectionately named Zephyr, seemed happy in his sunny spot by the window. He even graced me with a new shoot! I was riding high on my plant-parenting success… until things took a turn.

Is My Houseplant Judging Me? The Side-Eye is Real

It started subtly. I’d be engrossed in a particularly gripping episode of whatever reality TV show was currently fueling my existential dread, and I’d feel a presence. Turning my head, I’d catch Zephyr seemingly… looking at me. Not just in my general direction, but directly AT me, with what I could only describe as a look of weary disappointment.
