My Thumb Is, Apparently, Not So Green
Let’s be honest, I’m not exactly known for my nurturing abilities. My goldfish, Horatio, met an untimely end (the less said about that, the better). My sourdough starter? Let’s just say it staged a silent protest and refused to rise. So, naturally, when my well-meaning friend gifted me a houseplant, I accepted it with a mixture of hope and trepidation.
“It’s a peace lily,” my friend chirped, “practically indestructible!”
Famous last words.
Yet, through it all, Percy persevered. He might have looked a little droopy at times (okay, a lot droopy), but he never gave up. And you know what? There’s something incredibly inspiring about that. Life throws curveballs, sometimes in the form of accidental root rot, but it’s our ability to bounce back that truly matters.
Lesson #2: Houseplant Self-Care – It’s Essential, Not Selfish
Here’s the thing about plants (and people, for that matter): they thrive when their needs are met. Once I finally figured out Percy’s preferred watering schedule (who knew Tuesdays and Fridays were his go-to hydration days?), the difference was remarkable. He perked up, new leaves unfurled, and he even graced me with a single, elegant bloom.
