My Thumb Went from Black to…Slightly Less Black
Let’s be honest, my history with plants was less than stellar. I’d adopted several leafy friends over the years, only to watch in horror as they slowly withered under my care. My track record was so bad, my friends joked that I possessed the opposite of a green thumb, perhaps a “charcoal-tinged” thumb? So, when my well-meaning aunt gifted me a resilient-looking ZZ plant, I accepted with a mix of cautious optimism and impending doom.
And you know what? That principle applies to more than just houseplants. It’s true for relationships, for creative projects, even for our own mental well-being. Sometimes, we need to step back, stop overthinking, and trust that things will work out without our constant intervention.
Lesson #2: Embracing Resilience and Bouncing Back
This little plant has been through a lot in the time we’ve lived together. I’m talking accidental drops, near-freezing temperatures from open windows in winter (oops!), and even a close encounter with a curious cat. But you know what? She bounced back every single time. A little droopy, maybe a lost leaf or two, but always resilient, always pushing out new growth.
