Okay, confession time: I am not exactly known for my green thumb. In fact, I’m pretty sure I’ve single-handedly kept several plant nurseries in business over the years, replacing one dearly departed fern after another. So, when my well-meaning friend gifted me a – gasp – living houseplant for my birthday, my immediate thought was, “Oh no, not again.”

I’m a bit of an instant gratification kind of gal. I like my coffee brewed in seconds, my online orders delivered yesterday, and my results, well, immediate. So, imagine my surprise when I learned that the key to a thriving plant is…wait for it…patience.
You see, unlike my instant coffee habit, my houseplant didn’t sprout new leaves overnight (much to my initial disappointment). It took weeks of consistent watering, the right amount of sunlight, and a whole lot of “please don’t die” whispers before I noticed any significant growth. But when those new leaves finally unfurled, oh boy, the sense of accomplishment was real!
