The Day My Inner Voice Became a Stand-Up Comedian

My Inner Voice: More Open Mic Night Than HBO Special

We all have that inner voice, right? That little narrator in our heads providing a running commentary on our lives. Mine has always been a bit…extra. Opinionated, sassy, and with a penchant for dramatic pronouncements at the most inopportune times. Like, imagine whispering “Do. Not. Trip.” to yourself as you navigate a crowded room. Not exactly helpful, inner voice.

But things took a turn for the comedic a few weeks ago. It all started during a particularly boring work meeting…

“Welcome to My Ted Talk, Entitled ‘The Existential Dread of Paperclip Placement.'”

I was fighting the urge to nod off during a presentation about, I kid you not, paperclip organization (seriously, who knew there were so many options?) when my inner voice decided to pipe up. But instead of its usual snarky commentary, it launched into a full-blown stand-up routine.

“Okay, folks, let’s talk paperclips. These little metal bad boys—always causing a ruckus, am I right? You got your standard silver ones, living that basic life. Then you got your colorful ones, trying to spice things up. But you know what they all have in common? They disappear faster than my will to live during this presentation.”
