The Time My Fiddle Leaf Fig Threw Shade (Literally)
Okay, hear me out. I know it sounds crazy, but I swear my houseplants are judging me. It all started with Gerald, my notoriously dramatic fiddle leaf fig. You know the type – high maintenance, needs constant attention, and throws a fit if the humidity drops below 60%.
One particularly stressful Tuesday, after a grueling workday and a disastrous attempt at making sourdough bread (don’t ask), I plopped down on the couch, exhausted. As I reached for my third cookie in a row (don’t judge!), I noticed Gerald. Or rather, I noticed Gerald’s leaves. They seemed to be…drooping?
Gerald isn’t the only one with an opinion. My peace lily, Petunia, is a master of passive-aggressive judgment. She’s a bit less dramatic than Gerald, preferring to communicate through subtle cues. Forget to water her for a few days? Boom, drooping leaves. But here’s the kicker – she doesn’t perk back up immediately after a good watering. Oh no, Petunia likes to make me sweat it out for a few days, just to remind me who’s really in charge.
And don’t even get me started on the whole “peace” thing. Ironic, right? Because every time I argue with my partner on the phone (within earshot of Petunia, naturally), her leaves start to develop brown tips. Coincidence? I think not.
