My Thumb Is Apparently Not So Green
Let’s be honest, I’m not exactly known for my nurturing skills. I once managed to kill a cactus. A cactus, people! So when my well-intentioned friend gifted me a peace lily for my birthday, I accepted it with a smile and a healthy dose of internal panic.
“Low maintenance,” my friend assured me. “Just don’t overwater it.”
Famous last words, right?
My journey with Lily (yes, I named her, don’t judge) started out rocky, to say the least. I overwatered her. I underwatered her. I accidentally scorched one of her leaves with direct sunlight. (Sorry, Lily!) I was convinced she was a goner, destined to join the graveyard of succulents and cacti that had come before her.
But then, something amazing happened. Lily, despite my best efforts to the contrary, persevered. She bounced back from each near-death experience, teaching me that resilience isn’t about avoiding hardship, it’s about having the strength to keep growing even when things get tough.
Lesson #2: Celebrate the Small Victories
Now, I’m not going to lie, I’m still waiting for the day Lily blooms a glorious white flower. But along the way, there have been small victories that have filled me with an unexpected sense of accomplishment. A new leaf unfurling. A subtle shift towards the sunlight. These seemingly insignificant moments became my own personal reminders to appreciate the small wins in life, the ones that often go unnoticed in our pursuit of the bigger picture.
