My Thumb Is Not So Green
We’ve all been there. You walk into the grocery store for milk and eggs, and walk out with a new plant friend and a newfound sense of responsibility. Okay, maybe that’s just me. But that’s exactly how I ended up with Bartholomew, a sprightly little ZZ plant with leaves greener than Kermit the Frog after a week-long vacation.
Now, I wouldn’t call myself plant-challenged, but let’s just say my gardening skills are more “oops, I forgot to water you for a month” than “green goddess.” So, you can imagine my surprise when Bartholomew not only survived my haphazard care, but actually thrived. And in the process, taught me a thing or two about life.
This resilience, this ability to weather any storm (or, you know, neglected watering schedule) made me realize the power of our own inner strength. Just like Bartholomew, we all have the capacity to overcome obstacles, learn from our mistakes, and come out the other side even more resilient.
Lesson 2: Growth Happens on Its Own Time
Now, I’m a bit of an impatient person. I like instant gratification, quick results, and seeing progress yesterday. But Bartholomew, in his infinite plant wisdom, taught me the value of patience. He didn’t sprout new leaves every week, didn’t magically double in size overnight. His growth was slow, steady, and almost imperceptible at times.
But then, one morning, BAM! A brand-new shoot, reaching towards the sun like a tiny green beacon of hope. It was a powerful reminder that real growth takes time, that we can’t rush the process, and that the most rewarding things in life often unfold slowly and unexpectedly.
